In his introduction to the song "Jesus Is For Losers" at Cornerstone 1995/1996, Steve said,

Just like me right now, all of us, at one time or another, we get thirsty, right?  We get thirsty, and we figure out, 'I know what I'll do.  I'm going to try to find something to drink'.  And so, we start looking around, trying to figure out something that's going to take away our thirst.  And we check out everything there is to offer.  Look under rocks, and we search corners, and we go searching around anywhere we can think of.  And finally, we come across a well, see?  We come across a well, and we figure, 'ah, yes, something that's gonna take away the thirst'.  We look inside the well, and we don't see anything, except for our own reflection.  No water, just a picture of ourselves staring back at us.  You know, we look at it for a while, and we like what we see.  Pretty soon, we're sure that that's all that there is.  So we go away, thinking we're it.  But we're still thirsty.  And I never knew the man, but when I wrote that song ("Jim Morrison's Grave"), I was thinking maybe that's what Jim Morrison was about.

See, some of us, we get thirsty, really thirsty.  We set out on the same search.  We go searching around for a while.  Just about to the end of our rope.  Finally come across that same well.  We look inside and figure, "wow, something, finally, that's going to take this thing away".  But when we look inside, we don't see any water. We don't see our own reflection.  We don't see anything, just a big black hole staring back at us.  No hope.  No future.  Nothing to live for.  I never knew the man, but I wonder if that's what maybe Kurt Cobain was about.

Some of us get really, really thirsty, so thirsty we don't think we're gonna make it.  We know we got nothing going for us.  We know we don't deserve anything.  We know we're losers.  We go looking for the well, but we got no idea where it is, so we just drop to our knees and we start crawling.  So now we come across that same well.  We look inside.  We see the face of Jesus looking back at us.  So we take a drink.  We take a drink of living water, and we're never going to be thirsty again.  I know that man lives in my testimony.  This is "Jesus Is For Losers".
