In his introduction to the song "Meat The Press" at Ichthus 1984, Steve said,
"Here in Wilmore, do you have a daily paper? What, like the Wilmore Inquirer, or something like that, every day here? See, there's an organization in our society that is known as the 'Watchdog of Society', also known as that national press. Now, I don't know if it's just my imagination, but it seems to me like lately Christianity has been getting a very bad rap in the national press. It's like they all act like we're brainless or we're out to lunch or we're irrelevant. Whatever, you know? Now, I get the Denver Post where I'm from, and every day the Denver Post prints maybe 100, 150 pages of news. But if I want to find out anything about religion at all, I mean any kind of religion, you know Hindu, Hare Krishna, Guru, Doodoo, I gotta wait until Fridays, and I gotta look way in the back section between the classified want ads and the obituaries, and maybe I can find two columns on all of religion. That is, unless you're a Christian and you want to make the front page. And then you've got to do something like 'Fundamentalist Preacher Boils Puppies', you know what I mean?. So we've come up with a little musical solution, and we'd like all of you to read along, those of you who have been reading along in the front row, very loudly. What does this say? 'Meat'. Good. What does this say? 'The'. Good. What does this say? 'Press'!
